I got a call from someone who'd received a new monitor, complaining that the new LCD screen was fuzzy. We went over to take a look, but couldn't find anything wrong with the display. To be on the safe side we replaced the cheep data cable that came with the screen, with a well shielded cable.
The next week I got another call from her: "I think I need a new monitor. Last week the tech replaced my cable, and that made it better, but it only works when I'm wearing my glasses. I know it's not the glasses, because the other day I got a new pair, and it's the same thing. As soon as I take my glasses off, the screen is fuzzy. And Shelly across from me, doesn't even wear glasses, and the screen is always fuzzy for her. So if you could get that replaced I'd appreciate it"

Y'know, I have the same

Y'know, I have the same problem. Of course, if I take off my glasses I can't see my blinkin' fingernails without holding them 6 inches away from my eyes.

Monitor problems are "old

Monitor problems are "old news". Back in the early 1980's I serviced CRT terminals (character oriented, it was "old school"). We would go to users sites and always clean off the face of the CRT's with Windex (or equivaloent). Since the environment was close to being a "smoke filled room", this always had an immediate effect. Comments heard from the staff were always in the order of "Gee this works MUCH better". While they didn't have glasses, my fellow service guy would always refer to the workers as "dumber than cheese", and he wasn't far off the mark!

I had a user call me the other day

who was complaining the 'color was all wrong' on her monitor ... 'ya know, cause you had to remove a virus the other day and it's been weird ever since'. Absolutely nothing was wrong; I certainly wasn't breaking out the spectrometer for this one... accounting should be done on a monochrome dumb client anyways.

alternate option

why give her a new LCD, just give her some crappy used CRT monitor and tell her it is designed to be clear and that is why is takes up so much space.

we didn't give her a new

we didn't give her a new LCD...
we made her buy one :D

We have a similar problem

We have a similar problem with people's bad eyesight, we mainly have 17" CRT monitors but of course everyone wants a new LCD panel. The problem is that they refuse to run at anything other than 800 x 600 resolution because otherwise it's too small and they cant read it, sure I can increase the font and icon size but they dont like that. Sure they want that brand new 19" widescreen monitor but with a native resolution of 1440 x 900 they would still try and run it at 800 x 600, in the end we talked the boss in getting some cheap ex lease 17" LCDs because anything else would be a waste of money, I even convinced the users to run in 1024 by 768 and wear their glasses...

800x600=bane of existence

We have software that states VERY CLEARLY at the beginning of its release notes that it is optimized to be run at AT LEAST 1024x768. So apparently our company hires from the same pool that yours does, because not a day goes by that some old bat complains that "she needs her icons bigger". Or heaven forbid one of them has a retarded grandson that tells them how to adjust the resolution, so we then get calls because they get "object errors", or the friggin form they need is too big for the screen and they can't get to the action buttons. I feel you, man.

Exact same thing where I

Exact same thing where I used to work. I swear, almost everyone in that office ran their 17" and 19" LCDs at SVGA resolution. Annoyed me to no end when I had to service one.

And the scary thing...

The scary thing is that they drove into work.

Please enjoy.
